release notes

so, since we don’t have a company blog yet, this will have to do.

we’re launching the pre-alpha tonight to a select group of testers. hopefully you guys can offer us some really good feedback on all the things we missed!

but some known issues first:

  1. there’s no company blog yet
  2. the contact form isn’t working yet
  3. tracking information on the manage pages isn’t implemented yet
  4. sometimes downloading photos from amazon s3 is laggy (we use s3 instead of cloudfront on all user-submitted images, ’cause cloudfront has a delay of up to 12 hours before files are recached — we know you guys want to see your images immediately), so just reload the page if images are blanking
  5. alt tags are not 100% accurate yet, so please don’t rely on them to get where you need to go
  6. the help, privacy policy, and terms sections have not been fleshed out yet
  7. the about section is inane
  8. we haven’t yet load tested the server we’re running on, so we’re unsure how things will go once people start using the service and uploading lots of images. apologies if things are slow
  9. the site is also horrendous looking in any version of IE – 5-8. the site only renders correctly in webkit or mozilla based browsers (and only the versions that support some CSS3 selectors, so that means Firefox 3+, Safari 3+ and Chrome). we’ll be rewriting the CSS soon to take out the advanced CSS3 selectors and to fix all the IE quirks, so that everybody can enjoy the visually pleasing rounded corners (and not have to deal with broken pages).

also, the usual pre-alpha stage service caveats apply:

  1. we’re going to try our hardest to preserve your data, but mishaps do happen. keep your invite code close just in case you need to make a new account
  2. we’re not responsible if you break your computer, bite your tongue, or overcook a turkey because the site crashed or deleted your data. if it did, please let us know (especially if it happens during a weird time of the night)
  3. also, since we don’t have a real privacy policy or terms of use on the site, here’s a quick one:
    • we’re not going to sell your data, unless you piss us off (haha, just kidding)
    • there’s no guarantees as to uptime
    • there are no warranties. the service is offered as is
    • if you come across anything profane, please don’t be offended. we’ll remove it as soon as the novelty wears off, we swear!

anyway, please enjoy using the service. if you need help, message us on twitter: www.twitter.com/receet or give either leo, richard, or me a call.

best,
charles
